Radda
in Chianti
The road goes south to Radda in Chianti. The original town walls still
surround Radda below its castle and in the centre of the town lies the
fine Palazzo del Podestà. The Pieve di San Giusto in Salcio is
worth a visit: a beautiful country church located in a green valley
among the vineyards, only 3 kilometres from the town. Also worth seeing
3 kilometres to the north, is the Pieve di Santa Maria Novella, which
dates back to 1000 AD, with its original Romanesque square facade with
unique embellishments of eagle and lion adorned capitals. Radda is the
official headquarters of the Consorzio Chianti Classico, founded in
1924, and a Centro Studi Chiantigiani (Centre for Chianti Studies).
